Wellesley Township Recreation Centre Capital Campaign Launches

Capital Campaign Chair announces the campaign slogan “Something for Everyone”

Wellesley Township, ON – Following months of assessment and planning, the Wellesley Township Recreation Centre Capital Campaign is officially set to launch.

“It’s an exciting time for the township as we begin to build for our future,” says Capital Campaign Chair, Chris Martin. “We’re calling the campaign ‘Something for Everyone’, because this facility will be designed with amenities that will be enjoyed by township residents of all ages.”

The new 62,000 square foot recreation centre includes a single pad ice rink, walking track, youth centre, senior’s centre, meeting rooms, an outdoor walking trail, 2 soccer fields, a gymnasium/community centre, fitness centre, skateboard park, a multi-use sports pad, and a 7,000 square foot Community Health Centre. With construction set to begin in the spring of 2022, the projected completion of the multi-use Recreation Centre is the fall of 2023.

“With so much to offer, the new recreation centre will impact the lives of the residents of our township for years to come,” says Martin. “This will be a first-class community facility that will enhance the quality of life for everyone.”

In December 2021, Wellesley Township Council unanimously moved to negotiate a contract with Ball Construction to build the new recreation centre. Following council’s approval for the project, the Capital campaign committee set a community-based fundraising goal of $2.5 million.

“The official launch of the capital campaign signals our committee's commitment to seeing a first-class recreational facility built in Wellesley Township,” says Martin. “It's also an opportunity for every township resident to support and be a part of building for our future by planning fundraisers and making their own donations.”
