Any Given Tuesday
Just an arena? No way!
The Wellesley Township Recreation Centre will be a centre of activity that provides Something for Everyone. Take a look at a day in the life of a vibrant community Recreation Centre on any given Tuesday – say, in November.
7:00 AM
Township staff open the rec centre and some early birds head out on the walking track.

9:00 AM
Seniors begin arriving at the Senior’s Active Living Centre. Coffee is put on and work begins on a quilt. Some couples are playing cards as staff members from Community Care Concept arrive and help with programming.

10:30 AM
A few seniors move over to the gymnasium and help set up tables and chairs while the caterers are busy in the kitchen preparing for the seniors’ hot lunch day.

At the same time, the Community Health Centre has started a healthy bones class in one of the meeting rooms for those suffering from osteoporosis.
The walking track has a few parents with strollers walking in one as some seniors go for a stroll in another lane.

2:30 PM
The youth worker opens the doors to the youth drop-in.

3:00 PM
The teens begin arriving: some head to the gym to play pickup basketball while others hang out in the Youth Centre. The youth worker uses this time to get to know the kids and help some with homework, or just talks to them about the challenges they faced that day.

In a meeting room, the Community Health Centre is holding a diabetic workshop for new diabetics learning to live with their disease.

5:00 PM
The youth have gone home and a community group uses the gymnasium to hold an exercise boot camp. And the walking track continues to be busy.

7:00 PM
An adult volleyball league starts in half of the gymnasium, while a pickleball league is playing on the other half.
In the meeting rooms there are various local community groups holding their monthly meetings, and the Community Health Centre is running a smoking cessation class.

11:00 PM
The Recreation Centre is closed for the day.

And of course, on Any Given Tuesday the arena would be busy from early morning to late in the evening with residents of all ages coming and going to games and practices.
